Ms. Anita Lucky Lakareber was born in Northern Uganda, and she lived through the decades of armed conflict between the Government of Uganda and Lord's Resistance Army. Anita relocated to safety in New York State from where she graduated with Honors in Liberal Arts and Sciences from Erie Community College. Currently, Anita is a student at D’Youville College pursuing a bachelor’s of science in nursing. Before relocating to the US, Anita co-founded the United Youth Entertainment—a non-profit organization in her native Uganda, with a group of war affected orphans. The United Youth Entertainment uses motion picture to highlight social challenges affecting post conflict youths, in particular, showcasing social inequities and risks associated with orphans, vulnerable children, and youths in post conflict Northern Uganda.

Anita was appointed Chair of Diversity at New York State (NYS) Women Inc., of the Buffalo-Niagara Chapter. Additionally, Anita is a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, the League of Women Voters of Buffalo Niagara, and a devoted member of St. Luke’s Mission of Mercy in Buffalo.
Among her achievements, Anita was recognized as Erie Community College’s Student of the Year for the 2015/16 and received numerous scholarships and awards for her academic excellence and community involvement.

Anita is passionate about equity in healthcare, public speaking, community engagement, human rights and gender equity (advocacy for vulnerable post conflict girl child). In appreciation for the warm welcome and care accorded to her as a young refugee, as such Anita makes the time to volunteer at several organizations in the greater Western New York community to give back to this community. Anita's hobbies include reading, music (and passionate about singing), creative dance, theatricals, poetry, and writing. Anita also enjoys chatting with seniors for their wisdom. Anita believes in personal values, integrity, and the art of giving as an empowering experience.
